14th October

What a mad house we live in!

Harry is five and a half months old and our house is officially a madhouse. He has settled in completely and  is definitely king of this jungle, and everyone knows it.  He is so fed up with me taking pictures of him, it is hard to get one without him looking thoroughly disgusted at yet another picture. As soon as I approach him with a camera, he squints his eyes in protest and mumbles under his breath “not her again”.

Peter and myself have to watch out for flying cats - all of them have a habit of jumping off high places without warning, and flying past our heads at lightening speed.
One of these days we will be knocked out.

It is lovely when they are all fast asleep and our quiet house is restored - I am forever getting a shock from them, (my office is next to where they hang out), and
I keep hearing loud bangs from next door - and my typing goes berserk, I nearly have a heart attack with shock.

Of course, all the time this madness is going on, Sacha is jumping up and trying to catch a cat - it is exactly like the Tom and Jerry cartoons, which can be unsettling, (especially first thing in the morning), but it is very funny, and we would not have it any other way.
Harry’s favourite cat is Ben (large hairy gonk), they are inextricably linked and love one another.
So, everyone is happy and settled, and ready for a cold Autumn/Winter with the outside birds keeping everyone entertained.
We have have had our first frost and heard our first Robin.

6th November

Six months old

Little Harry is getting to be big Harry - he is six months
old - and my what a big pussy cat.
Yesterday was Bonfire (Day) Night also know as Guy Fawkes Night - this is a very strange custom of the
British.
Our nation sets off very loud and powerful fireworks - all day and all night - we also burn smelly bonfires, and knock on front doors asking for a “Penny for the Guy”.
This strange custom goes back to the year 1603, when a certain Mr Guy Fawkes attempted to burn down London’s famous Houses of Parliament.  He was executed for his trouble, and ever since, Bonfire Night has been a traditional British celebration of Mr Fawkes’ defeat - and subsequent demise.  His effigy is burned on bonfires - it certainly sounds like a lot of fun.
The only trouble with this is most of the birds, cats, dogs and other animals (and many households), are kept awake most of the night by very loud bangs - poor Harry spent the night in a cupboard, and I nearly joined him. However, he, Sacha and our other cats are now fine, and safe, for another 364 days.

Harry becomes Harriet next month, bless him - he is
going to the vets to have his little “boy” bits removed.
He can now jump on very high cupboards, so no place is safe from his teeth and claws - luckily, he gets on famously with our other cats - the mad house just got madder.

As you can see below, he and Ben are inseparable.

20th November

Harry and the giant black grape

Little Harry has been playing with a giant black grape
(s) for the past two weeks - they are enormous, the size of satsumas. He happily bats it around all day long until somebody stands on it, and it is quashed - we then give him another. His latest trick is to remove straws from tins of pop, as soon as we put the can down, he quickly removes the straw and is off with it in his mouth - hilarious. He is getting to be a big boy now, and will soon be our biggest cat, (judging by the size of his feet).

Sacha and Harry play all the time, and now he is bigger, we are not so concerned for his safety (Sacha’s teeth) - she would never hurt him purposely, of course, but she does get excited, so we must be careful.
Harry is not too big for his daily cuddles, he loves being carried around and has an extremely loud purr - he is a delight, and a very loving cat.

29th November

Harry has had his operation

Little Harry was running around our room in a figure of eight for about two hours this morning in protest of not being given his breakfast; however, he has just returned from our vets minus two items :-) and he is slightly worse for wear with the anaesthetic. Apart from feeling woozy, and being wobbly on his feet, he is fine, and will no doubt be making up for lost time this evening, and terrorising our bigger cats.

27th December 2005

Harry’s first Christmas -

Harry has taken over our home completely and Peter, myself, our cats (and Cherry our car), are living in our garage.
Well not quite, but it is absolute Bedlam in our house.
The little horror just wants to play and jump on other
cats, Peter, Sacha and myself, all day long. We have had many cats, and Harry is definitely the most mischievous. Of course, we wouldn’t have him any other way, and life is far from dull.  Harry and big cats enjoyed opening their Christmas stockings, and just as expected, they had more fun playing with the wrapping paper.
Harry happily shredded the wrapping paper until all flooring and furnishings disappeared from view.
Phew! what a mad house.

Happy 2006 to Harry, Felines and Sacha

Harry means to continue 2006 in the same manner as 2005, that is, to eat anything he can get his teeth into, whether that is ourselves, Sacha, his feline brothers or food.  His favourite food at present is cooked stringy spaghetti, he cannot get enough of it.
Especially, when competing with Sacha - they both eat is as quick as possible, the only problem is, there is none left for me - they are not very good at sharing.

Ben and Thomas have been in a flying mood and keep landing on our heads and backs, we are used to it now, but is is still a shock when they stick their claws in you, unintentionally of course. You may think our house sounds like a mad house - well that is because it is.

Terry the Nocturnal Sparrow

We have a little visitor.

Every morning and evening a young Sparrow, (Terry, above) sits on our bird feeders looking into the kitchen window - which the cats love of course, their tails are swishing and whiskers are twitching like mad.
Terry arrives about 5.30 am, he purposely sets our security light off and he sits by himself, watching the cats and ourselves in the kitchen.

31st January

Harry Causing Extreme Havoc

As you can see, Harry is a big boy, and is quickly outgrowing his brothers; however, he will always be known as baby/little Harry.
He has been on form causing chaos amongst our cats; as cat lovers know, cats just adore cardboard boxes, and ours are no exception. They will be blissfully dreaming of mice, ensconced in their boxes, then all of a sudden
BANG! Harry is sitting on their heads, (having squashed the top of the box), at present they are struggling to keep their dignity.

He still eats just about everything, and wolfs down food that Sacha (our fastidious canine) refuses.
He is always the exhibitionist, and loves creating noise, and demands (and receives) regular cuddles.

He’s our little whirlwind and we hope he never changes
